In brief
Dr. Thomas Chalmers, an American physician who played a pivotal role in the scientific development of the randomized control trial and meta-analysis, died late last year. Shortly before Chalmers' death, Dr. Malcolm Maclure of the British Columbia Ministry of Health conducted a wide-ranging interview with him about his life and the past and future of clinical trials and evidence-based medicine. The first part is published below; the second part will appear in the Oct. 1 issue of CMAJ [in brief / en bref].

Le Dr Thomas Chalmers, médecin américain qui a joué un rôle pivot dans le développement scientifique des études cliniques et de la médecine fondée sur des données probantes, est décédé à la fin de l'année dernière. Peu avant sa mort, le Dr Chalmers a consenti au Dr Malcolm Maclure, du ministère de la Santé de la Colombie-Britannique, une entrevue générale sur le passé et l'avenir des études cliniques et de la médecine fondée sur des données probantes.
