New CPP fee guideline good news for MDs

Canadian Medical Association Journal 1996; 155: 1301
The federal government is preparing a new guideline to help physicians select the appropriate fee for preparing narrative medical reports for the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). The fee ceiling recently was raised from $50 to $150, and the amount paid to physicians will be based on the report's complexity and time needed to complete it.

The fee increase followed extensive consultation between the federal government and the CMA. New initiatives concern the fee paid to complete the medical report form that is part of the application for CPP disability payments. The CMA has a further connection with the CPP. Dr. Léo-Paul Landry, the secretary general, chairs the plan's advisory board, a statutory body that reviews the operation of the CPP and the adequacy of its coverage and benefits.
