Guidelines for red blood cell and plasma transfusion for adults and children Information about infectious risks of transfusion In the past, physicians prescribing blood products have not had accurate and readily available information on the infectious risks of blood transfusion. No single national agency has assumed or been assigned to provide physicians or the community at large with this information. The EWG believes that a single agency should have the responsibility to provide this information, but could not reach a consensus about which agency should be delegated or whether the EWG had the mandate to make such a proclamation. However, the EWG believes that those who constitute the Canadian blood system have the responsibility to do this without delay.
