Died May 9, 2001, aged 56; survived by his wife, Ruth, and 3 children.

Dheendsa, Anoop S., Brampton, Ont.; Punjab University (India), 1984; family medicine; CCFP; former staff, York-Finch General Hospital. Died May 3, 2001, aged 39; survived by his wife, Harmeet.

Evans, Gerald E., Vancouver; University of Alberta, 1950; pediatrics; FRCPC; former chief of staff and consultant, Chilliwack General Hospital. Died May 23, 2001, aged 75; survived by his wife, June, and 4 children. His son, Dr. Kenneth Evans, observed: "He will be remembered for his uncompromising medical care, his volunteer activities and his musical wit."

Kelly, J. Ross, Edmonton; University of Alberta, 1938; MCFP; former staff, Royal Alexandra Hospital. Died of cancer May 3, 2001, aged 87; survived by his wife, Nora, and 3 children. His obituary stated: "He had a passion for dogs and horses, loved bridge, curling and golf, and held the special distinction of shooting 9 holes-in-one."

Little, Meldrum W., Nanaimo, BC; University of Alberta, 1950; general surgery; FRCSC; RAF, WW II; former staff, Union Hospital; recipient, Nuffield Scholarship, general surgery, 1954. Died June 13, 2001, aged 77; survived by his wife, Jean, and 2 children. Colleague Eldon Lee recalls: "Dr. Little flew the 'Hump' in the China/Burma theatre in WW II with 117 Squadron of the RAF. He was awarded the DFC for bravery and was 1 of 3 survivors from his original squadron."

Maloney, John H., Charlottetown, PEI; McGill University, 1942; obstetrics/gynecology; MRCOG, FRCSC; RCAMC, WW II; former chief and staff, obstetrics/gynecology, Charlottetown Hospital; staff, Prince Edward Island and Queen Elizabeth hospitals; consultant, hospitals in Alberton and O'Leary; president, Prince Edward Island Medical Society; minister of health, welfare, industry, commerce, development and education, Prince Edward Island; senior member, CMA. Died May 10, 2001, aged 83; survived by his wife, Marguerite, and 5 children. His obituary stated: "He was minister of health when medicare was introduced, and he had to ensure that the program lived up to and fulfilled its promises. In view of its controversial nature it was not easy to ensure that it would service Islanders' interests, including those of doctors."

McKinnon, Carl R., Vancouver; University of Manitoba, 1939; physical medicine and rehabilitation; FRCPC; former assistant medical director, Rehabilitation Centre, Workers' Compensation Board of British Columbia. Died Jan. 20, 2001, aged 93.

McPherson, R. Hugh, Mount Forest, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1936; general practice; MCFP; Died May 27, 2001, aged 89; survived by his wife, Marjorie, and 2 daughters. His obituary stated: "He devoted his life to developing rural medicine in this area."

Nelson, John W., Victoria; University of London (England), 1941; MRCP(Ed.), LRCP(Lond.). Died May 4, 2001, aged 83; survived by his wife, Barbara.

Smialek, John E., Detroit, Mich.; University of Toronto, 1967; pathology; former chief medical examiner, Maryland; head, forensic pathology, University of Maryland; teacher, Johns Hopkins University. Died of a heart attack May 9, 2001, aged 58. The Globe and Mail reported: "Straight into Baltimore's worst wave of violent crime came a Canadian pathologist. . . . His presence in popular culture was launched in a book called Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon, the volume in turn inspiring the network television series Homicide: Life on the Street."

Taylor, William C., Edmonton; University of Aberdeen (Scotland), 1945; pediatrics; FAAP, FRCPC; former staff, University of Alberta Hospitals; professor, Department of Pediatrics, and director, Division of Studies in Medical Education, University of Alberta. Died Apr. 2, 2001, aged 77.

Todd, Irvine M., Ottawa; Queen's University (Ireland), 1950; MCFP; RAF, WW II; former staff, Riverside and Perley hospitals. Died May 15, 2001, aged 77; survived by 2 children.

Woodhouse, Donald H., North York, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1941; internal medicine; FRCPC; former associate physician, Montreal General Hospital; vice-president and medical director, Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada; lecturer, McGill University. Died Apr. 1, 2001, aged 83; survived by his wife, Frances, and 3 children.
