International Directory of Scholars in Comparative Literature and Culture

    1. Purpose and Functions of the Directory: The purpose of the International Directory of Comparative Literature and Culture is the facilitation of scholarly communication and access to information in scholarship by employment of information technology such as e-mail and the world wide web. The Directory is a list of scholars in the field with the web page of the scholar's curriculum vitae and list of publications (where available), the postal address of the university, an e-mail address, and the scholar's areas of specialization. The copyright of the directory is with CLCWeb and any commercial use of the directory constitutes copyright infringement. Functions of the CLCWeb International Directory of Comparatists include the facilitation of contact, the finding of expertise in specific fields of research, and the promotion of comparative literature and comparative cultural studies as an international and global discipline. Members of the Directory are subscribed to a moderated listserv for news in comparative literature and culture operated by CLCWeb with the technical assistance of Purdue University: to subscribe to the CLCWeb listserv, send e-mail: subscribe clclist to <majordomo@purdue.edu>; to unsubscribe from the CLCWeb listserv, send e-mail: unsubscribe clclist to <majordomo@purdue.edu>; in order to post announcements and material of interest on the listserv, send items to the editor, Steven Totosy, at <clcweb@purdue.edu>.

    2. The Format of Entries in the Directory: The format of the data is Last Name, First Name <URL of CV and list of publications>, Institutional Affiliation with Address (postal address and e-mail), and areas of specialization and interest. Colleagues are invited to send new data and corrections including the <URL of their vita and list of publications> by e-mail to Wendy C. Nielsen at <nielsen@writing.ucsb.edu> or <wendycnielsen@hotmail.com>.

    3. The History of the Directory: The directory has been developed and maintained since 1995 by Steven Totosy from data received from the ICLA: International Comparative Literature Association (Steven Totosy, Chair, Committee for Information and Communication, 1994-99), the University of Alberta Research Institute for Comparative Literature (Steven Totosy, associate director, 1989-99), the Canadian Review of Comparative Literature / Revue Canadienne de Littérature Comparée (Steven Totosy, associate editor and desktop publisher, 1989-97), national comparative literature associations, and various sources available on the world wide web. First posted online in 1995, the directory served as a function of the ICLA Committee for Communication and Information; after the Committee's end of term in 1999 it is now a service offered by CLCWeb, available online in the journal's Library. 1994-98 the following have assisted in the compilation of the directory: Roumiana Deltcheva, Judit Mészáros, Irene Sywenky, and Edward Vlasov (all U of Alberta); as of 2000 Wendy C. Nielsen (U California Santa Barbara, <nielsen@writing.ucsb.edu> or <wendycnielsen@hotmail.com>) updates the directory.
