Did you know you could tell a herbivore from a carnivore by the position of its eyes? After reading this book you will, as well as know the reason for many other phenomena associated with vision.

This extensive book on eyes and vision is full of interesting information and is very well written. There are activities to illustrate each concept ranging in difficulty from locating your blind spot to constructing a model of an eyeball. There are also many Intriguing optical illusions with explanations of how the brain is fooled.

The layout, however, is unappealing, with as many as six type styles, drawings, and black-and-white photographs combined on one page spread. There are only three pages with colour illustrations.

The combined glossary and index only refers to the main entry on each topic, which is at least a change from being referred to every occurrence of the word in the text.

The very readable text interesting topics clearly described, and wide range of activities make this a recommended purchase despite the poor layout.

Recommended for school and public libraries.

Grades 4 to 8 / Ages 9 to 13
