The Great Canadian Trivia Contest

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. There still seems to be lots of problems with the Village in Ontario. I tried to post to it last week but could not get through. I'll post all questions as soon as I can get through.
  2. Important note to those that answer by means of the Village address. This address has been changed. The new address is listed at the end of this posting. Some who have tried to post to the old address have had their messages bounced back.
  3. When a list of students is sent in could you please indicate if these students answered the question:

    a) independently
    b) as a team or group
    c) as a team or group representing a class or school

The question is posted every week and therefore should appear each week. If you have not received the question by Thursday then please e-mail me personally and I will get it out to you with lots of time to answer the question. Please try to find it from the regular sources first and only use this in the event you can't find it in the regular places. If everyone asks for it to be sent personally it will tie up a tremendous amount of my time.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:

The Stanley Cup playoffs have begun and we'll love them or hate them for almost two months. The Cup is now awarded exclusively to the NHL champion, however, this was not always the case. In the past other leagues and teams could challenge for the Stanley Cup. Here's the question.

Name the last team not in the NHL to win the Stanley Cup.

DUE DATE FOR THIS ANSWER: 4 May, 1996

SEND IN YOUR ANSWERS:

Remember, don't post your answers to CM. Instead, send your answers to Steve Caldwell at one of the following e-mail addresses:

April 8th's Question:

Let's see how well you know your National Parks. This is a three-part question.

  1. What is the largest National Park in Canada, in area?
  2. What is the smallest National Park in Canada, in area?
  3. Which National Park has the most visitors each year?
My information is based on the reporting year 1994-95.

Answer:

  1. The largest National Park in Canada is Wood Buffalo National Park which straddles the Alberta-North West Territories border - 44,802 sq. km.
  2. The smallest National Park in Canada is St. Lawrence Islands National Park in the Thousand Islands in Ontario - 8 sq. km.
  3. Banff National Park has the most visitors each year. In 1994-95, 4,887,000 visited this park.

Winners

For the second time in the Great Canadian Trivia Contest history there were no correct answers for this answer and very few entries. I was not able to access Ontario's Village network again this weekend so there might be some answers there.
