Volume 15 Number 6 1987 November Every pop-up book owner can show you how much loved and used pop-up books are. This is a craft book called How To Make Pop-Ups. It is geared for eight to twelve year olds but offers ideas for all who enjoy creating or helping others create. The basic supplies are paper, scissors, crayons, a ruler, and glue. There is much room left for personal creativity with the decoration and / or message of the pop-up. There are ideas for all occasions and special occasion greeting cards such as birthdays, Valentine's Day, Hallowe'en and Mother's Day, party invitations, holiday decorations, and centrepieces through to pop-up books. Many are fun everyday ideas. The book is arranged from the simplest to the most difficult pop-up. Joan Irvine's instructions are easily followed and are in large print. She has done pop-up workshops for children and is an artist and mother of two children. Barbara Reid's illustrations are also very clear as they accompany every step of the process. Barbara also illustrated Jenny Greenteeth ¹ and Just Desserts ². Parents will find this book not only worthwhile as a gift but as a reference source for hands-on together projects. Teachers will appreciate these ideas not only for art lessons but as ideas for integrated lessons in the language arts and environmental studies.
