I wished so hard
That I found a unicorn
In my backyard.
image So starts the adventure of a bored child who only has to wish some adventure into her life. When her scruffy unicorn arrives with his bone, they set off for a day of glorious adventure. After they storm a castle and defeat a dragon and an evil wizard, they tire themselves out digging for buried treasure. After a nap, the child awakens to find only her dog asleep on the lawn. But that's ok for tomorrow might be another unicorn day.
    Kady MacDonald Denton succeeds again with her charming artwork. These pictures are done in crayon-like gouache which captures this magical world of imagination perfectly. The rhyming text trips off the tongue. Luckily this spirited tale arrived just in time for my preschool storytime on dogs. It was a big hit, resulting in lots of giggles and speculations about this barking unicorn.

Highly recommended.
