
Program Description
The Agricultural Finance Option is a new offering in the Diploma in Agriculture program in the School of Agriculture. Students will study finance as used in agribusiness, farming, and the financial services industry. This program provides applied business training for careers with financial institutions, credit departments of agriculture based businesses, and a wide range of other businesses including larger farm operations.
Students will take courses related to agricultural production, marketing and financial management and will analyze business plans. In addition, students will improve their communication skills, study human resource management, and learn about public relations and how to interact with clients.
Careers
Graduates of the Agricultural Finance Option will be prepared to enter careers with lending agencies such as chartered banks, credit unions, as well as government lending agencies. They will also be prepared to work in a variety of agricultural businesses such as crop and livestock input companies providing financial services to the agriculture sector, equipment dealers providing credit to clients, or with large farms managing financial accounts. Careers include: agricultural loans officer, financial account manager, credit manager, personal business representative, and logistics coordinator.

- Crop and livestock production
- Marketing and economics
- Law, tax, and succession planning
- Environmental plans
- Business planning and analysis
- Human resource management and communication
Admission information
Students enter directly into the Agricultural Finance option. Applicants must be high school graduates with Senior 4 English, Mathematics, and a Science. Students without high school standing may be admitted upon the recommendation of the Diploma Selection Committee.
