The
Application Process
Step
1: Preparation for Application
Choose
an undergraduate program
Explore
the many programs available to you. Check out the complete list
of programs
we offer and consider your long-term career and degree goals before
making your choice. For information on career choices, check out
our campus Career
Resource Centre. Students applying for admission
from high school will often begin their university studies in
University 1 as a first step to their desired program.
Review
the entrance requirements
The
requirements for all of our programs are found in our Admissions
Requirements section. If you are not sure if you
meet these requirements, contact our office for advice. If you
are an international student, make sure to also check the additional
information on admission requirements, restrictions, and processes
in our International
Student section.
Check
available terms and application deadlines
The
terms and deadlines for all of our programs are listed in our
online Application
Guide. Your application and fee must be submitted
online or postmarked by the deadline to be considered. Note that
some programs will continue to accept in-person paper applications
after the online application process is closed. If you miss the
deadline for your preferred program, check with our office for
alternate suggestions.
Step
2: Completing the Application Form
Select your application process: online or a paper
application. The online Application Guide will indicate if
you can apply to your chosen program on-line or if you are required
to complete and submit the paper application.
Online
application (recommended)
Applying
online is easy. The online application is the quickest and easiest
way to apply to most of the University of Manitoba undergraduate
programs. You will save time and postage, and the initial processing
of your application will be completed much faster.
Make
sure you have the following information available before you begin
the online application:
- Basic
biographical information such as address, date of birth, immigration
details if not born in Canada, etc. You will require an email
address; if you do not already have one, you can obtain a free
address at any of a number of sites including hotmail.com, yahoo.com
or gmail.com.
- Details
of your current and prior education including starting and end
dates.
- A
valid VISA or MasterCard if you wish to pay the required application
fee by credit card. You will also have the option to complete
the application form online and submit the application fee by
mail (cheque or international money order in Canadian funds
made payable to the University of Manitoba) or in person at
our office (cheque, money order, cash, or debit card). Both
the application form and the application fee must be received
in our office by the admission deadline.
You
will be asked to create your own Applicant PIN (Personal Identification
Number) and will be assigned both an Applicant Number and a University
of Manitoba ID number. Make sure to write down these last two
numbers and to remember your PIN. (If you can not complete your
application at one time, you can return to finish or update your
application by returning to the site and entering your Applicant
Number and PIN.)
Make
sure to click on the Critical Information
link that appears by your Program Choice and follow any directions
specific to your program. Any additional supplemental applications
or instructions will be available through the Critical Information
link. When you have completed all the sections of the application
and either paid the application fee by credit card or printed
out the Payment Form, print a copy of the application for your
records by selecting the “Print Application Summary”
button on the Checklist page.
If
you encounter any questions or problems while completing the online
application form, contact our office at admissions_help@umanitoba.ca
or at (204) 474-8817. Phone calls or emails received
after hours will be answered the next business day.

prefer to apply using the traditional paper form, you can download
the specific application form from the program's application
form and deadline page. Complete the form, making
sure to answer all of the questions fully and sign the declaration
on the last page. Return the form and the non-refundable application
fee (cheque or international money order in Canadian funds made
payable to the University of Manitoba; VISA or MasterCard details;
in-person cash or Interac) to the Admissions
Office by the application deadline.
Step
3: Application Follow Up
Receive
an acknowledgement letter
You will receive
an acknowledgement letter within three to six weeks of the receipt
of your application by our Office. Make note of your Admission
Officer’s name and contact information, and your University
of Manitoba ID number for any future questions about your application.
Submit
any required documents or information as quickly as possible Send
in any documents or information that is requested of you in the
acknowledgement notification or in future communications from
our Office or the faculty office as quickly as possible. Generally
your application must be complete by July 15 if you want to be
considered for September admission. (Some faculties will have
different deadlines as detailed in their Applicant Bulletins or
the acknowledgement letters). Photocopies are not accepted. It
is recommended that original documents be sent by registered mail
or courier to prevent loss. Original documents, such as marriage
or birth certificates, will be returned to you. Other original
documents may be returned if the request is made by October 1,
2007 (for Fall 2007 applications). Transcripts and other academic

Step
4: After Receiving the Admission Decision
Confirm
that you wish to accept the offer of admission
If you have
been admitted to a program with limited enrolment, you will be
asked to confirm if you wish to accept the offer of admission.
In some cases, you will also be asked to submit a non-refundable
deposit by a specified date to hold your position. Details on
the deposit and/or other required documentation will be sent to
you with your offer of admission.
If you are
admitted to any open program such as University 1, General Studies,
Arts or Science, you will not be required to confirm you are accepting
the offer or to submit a deposit.
You
can only hold an offer of admission to one program at a time.
If you are offered admission to more than one program you will
need to confirm your preferred program selection with our Admissions
Office.
Alternate
choice of program
Any
student whose application for direct entry admission to Engineering,
Fine Arts, or Music is unsuccessful, will be automatically be
considered for admission to an alternate program (University 1
or General Studies). All other students must complete a second
application form (online or paper) and pay a second application
fee, to be considered for admission to an alternate program. This
second application must be submitted by the appropriate application
deadline. You do not need to wait for the admission decision on
your first choice to apply for an alternate program
Attend
any required pre-registration, orientation, or advising session
All
new University 1 students must complete Start@U1,
an online tutorial which teaches how to use the Aurora Student
Registration System prior to registration. Details on Start@U1
will be sent to all U1 applicants. Students admitted to other
programs that require attendance at orientations or student advisor
appointments will also receive information as necessary.
Register
for courses
Registration
for courses is usually completed online through the Aurora Student
system on the U of M web site. More information on registration
can be found in the Calendar
and Registration Guide.
