Human Ecology

Human Ecology offers six degree programs. The general Human Ecology program is designed for students who have career goals that require basic preparation in each of the major subject areas of the faculty. The Textile Sciences program teaches a curriculum beyond fashion design and merchandising as students transform textile concepts into textile products for apparel and non-apparel uses, or create textiles that play an important role in maintaining and promoting health. The Family Social Sciences program examines factors affecting human psychosocial health and well-being. They study human development from infancy to old age within the context of the family, the community, and the culture. The Human Nutritional Sciences program focuses on the role of nutrition in health and disease prevention, the application of nutrition to meet diverse human needs and lifestyles, and the importance of nutrition and food policies for community health. The Health Studies and Health Sciences programs (available to students in September 2007) will help students understand the factors that affect people working in health-related settings: health issues and products, needs of clients, delivery of health services and programs.
