Law
The Faculty
of Law offers a three-year program that emphasizes a balance between
doctrinal, clinical and perspective courses, each of which contributes
to an understanding of the law, its application, and its role within
a civil society. Students gain the practical experience that they
require in the field by working closely with professors and practicing
lawyers. The Bachelor of Law degree permits the holder to take the
Bar Admission course of any Canadian common law province. The Bar
Admission course, together with articling with a law firm or a government
agency, takes approximately one year following graduation from the
Faculty of Law.

Careers
Many graduates work with law firms across the country, practicing
on their own, or working for a variety of non-legal institutions which
require lawyers on staff. Others work for the government in criminal
prosecutions, civil litigation, corporate and commercial affairs,
taxation, and as general counsel. Law graduates may work as crown
prosecutors, draft legislation, advise various departments and tribunals,
and represent the government in court. A legal education is often
a stepping-stone to an executive position in business or to careers
in law enforcement, corrections, foreign affairs, banking, journalism,
and teaching.
