Physical Plant

Mission Statement:
To provide, maintain, and optimize physical resources and environments through the integration of people, technology, and innovative work practices in order to support and promote the University of Manitoba's mission and goals.

 
The Department of Physical Plant is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses, Glenlea Research Station, Delta Marsh and Star Lake Field Stations and the President’s Residence.  The Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses contain more than 100 buildings with a total area in excess of 5.6 million gross square feet.  The Fort Garry Campus consists of over 630 acres, of which 270 acres is developed land.  This includes 41.7 acres of parking lots, 9 kilometers of roads, 9.1 kilometers of sidewalks and 203.7 acres of landscaped area.
 
Physical Plant has a full time base funded staff of approximately 280 and a full time income funded staff of approximately 80.
 
Physical Plant is responsible for the administration and management of more than $31 million which is allocated to operations and utilities, and an additional $22 million is earmarked for capital projects.
 
The Department is comprised of the Director's Office, an Administrative Support Group, and three core service areas consisting of:
1) Caretaking Services; 2) Trades Services, Powerhouse and General Services, and 3) Architectural and Engineering Services.
