Financial Aid and Awards

The Financial Aid & Awards Office assists students in meeting their tuition and other education costs through a variety of award and aid programs. These include: student awards and scholarships recognizing students' academic and other achievements; bursaries which provide assistance to students with financial need; and administration of Federal and Provincial Government student loans and aid. As well, the Financial Aid & Awards Office provides emergency loans on a case by case basis and operates a foodbank in partnership with the University of Manitoba Students Union.

Financial Aid & Awards Announcements and Deadlines

2008-9 UM General Bursary Application: Deadline to apply is 1 October 2008. Print the application from home and avoid line-ups at the Financial Aid Office! Please read all bursary terms and conditions carefully before submitting your application. Click here to apply. Be sure to review the list of Special Bursary applications as well!
2008-9 UM Award Applications: While most UM awards are automatically awarded, there are some where a separate application is required. Visit the Current Award Applications page for information and application forms.
Student Loans: There have been several changes in the ID requirements when processing your Canada Student Loan (effective 1 May 2008). Click here for details.
Manitoba Family Services and Housing: Building Foundations Bursary Fund - $1000 bursaries for university students living in subsidized housing. Click the link for more information and application forms. Application deadline 15 September 2008.
2009 Rhodes Scholarships: Applications are now available from Financial Aid & Awards 422 University Centre. Click here for application and deadline information (pdf).
New Scholarship! UM Vanier Cup Bison Scholarship 2008/9: Two $5000 scholarships awarded by Sport Manitoba and the UM. Click here for more information. Deadline 17 October 2008.
Essay/video Contest: Canada-wide essay and video competition on the immigrant experience in Canada; $1000 prize offered by The Hungarian Presence In Canada. Click here for information. Deadline is 31 October 2008.
