Programs For Life

Mission Statement: Discover and disseminate knowledge related to physical activity, human movement, sport, and leisure to improve the health, well-being and quality of life of Manitobans, Canadians, and citizens of the world.

Welcome to the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba. The Faculty encompasses three buildings on the Fort Garry campus, the Frank Kennedy Centre, Max Bell Centre and the Investors Group Athletic Centre. In addition the Faculty is responsible for the Joe Doupe Centre on the downtown campus.

The academic programs of the Faculty include three undergraduate degrees, the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) degree, the Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin - formerly BESS) degree and the Recreation Management and Community Development (BRMCD) degree program. The BKin program offers specialization in three areas of study, one of those areas being Athletic Therapy, where our Faculty has one of only six accredited programs across Canada. At the graduate level the Faculty offers two Masters degrees, a Master of Science and a Master of Arts in Recreation Studies degree. The research enterprise of the Faculty is housed in the Health, Leisure and Human Performance Research Institute. The Institute Director, Dr. Phillip Gardiner is a Tier I Canada Research Chair. Research in the Institute is multi-disciplinary with five areas of research specialization.

Bison Sport and Active Living within the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management complements the academic programs of the University by providing opportunities for personal development and balance in academic and community life, outreach with respect to community access to wellness programs and professional development through practical training opportunities. It is made up of Bison Sports, Children's Programs, Recreation Services, Athletic Therapy Centre and Athletic Facilities.
