Financial Aid and Awards

The Financial Aid & Awards Office assists students in meeting their education costs through a variety of award and aid programs (scholarships, bursaries and government student loans).  We also provide emergency loans on a very strict case by case basis and operate the University of Manitoba Food Bank (in partnership with the University of Manitoba Students' Union).

Important News for Government Student Loan Recipients 

HURRY! Time to complete & submit your 2009-2010 Confirmation of Enrolment forms for your government loan providers is running out. We cannot release these forms once the academic year has ended. So, make sure to call your loan lenders (NSLSC, MSA, etc) to see if you require any forms. Minimum course load to receive confirmation of enrolment forms is 60% per term (usually a minimum of 9 credit hours per term). You have until the end of the term to confirm enrolment but lenders must receive & process you form BEFORE the end of April. Do not delay, call us today! 474-8197. Summer is just around the corner! Summer Session 2010 loan applications should be online with your provincial government loan provider in March. Students typically require a minimum of 9 credit hours to be considered full time in the Summer Session (for loan purposes). Please call our office today for more details!

New! 2009-2010 - Registration and Fees:

  • Tuition fees have increased for ALL students. Check fee information applicable to your program on the Registrar's Office website: umanitoba.ca/registrar for undergraduate and graduate fee information.
  • 50% refund on tuition fees for one term courses has been eliminated. Refer to the Refunds page on the Registrar's Office website for details.
  • Failure to pay for your courses will NOT result in de-registration/cancellation of courses in the current term.

Important Award Opportunities

B U R S A R Y  RESULTS - Please check your tuition account in Student Aurora to find out if you have been awarded a bursary. Students may only keep bursary money if they are registered in both Fall & Winter terms (1-term only students are not eligible for bursaries). Only successful recipients will be contacted by mail before Dec. 23rd. Ensure your mailing address in Aurora Student is up-to-date! Refund cheques for tuition fee over-payments will begin to be disbursed after February 15th, 2010. Call us today if you require those funds sooner than mid February.

Do you know an outstanding professor or instructor who deserves recognition for their teaching skills? If so, you may be interested in nominating someone you consider to be an exceptional faculty member for the Saunderson & Stanton Excellence in Teaching Award. We accept award nominations all year round!

The charitable foundation Carpe Diem 88 Inc. has been established to honor the memory of Winnipeg soldier, Cpl. James Hayward Arnal. Grants range from $1500 - $5000 for humanitarian efforts both locally and abroad to people 14 – 25 years of age.
