The INSTITUTE OF ISLAND STUDIES is a research, education and public policy institute, set up in 1985. With an emphasis on Prince Edward Island, the work of the Institute focuses on the culture, environment and economy of small islands. www.upei.ca/iis/
The UNIVERSITY OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND has a solid track record in island scholarship. Apart from supporting the Institute of Island Studies, UPEI has facilitated a North Atlantic Islands Programme (since 1992), hosted the 7th ISISA International Conference in 2002; nests the Canada Research Chair in Island Studies (since 2003); and runs academic programmes in Island Studies at UPEI, including an undergraduate minor (since 1999) and a Master of Arts Degree in Island Studies (since 2003). www.upei.ca
