The Loopy Ewe

Seascape is a featherweight wrap, light as a sea breeze, to keep you warm on a summer evening. Its sinuous lines of shifting yarnovers suggest ocean waves and strings of pearls.

It is knit in one piece, and designed to appeal to fans of symmetry. You can make it your own by adding a border or playing with the proportions.

The lace knitting is straightforward for experienced knitters and will be readily picked up by beginners.

MATERIALS
Rowan Kidsilk Haze [70% Super Kid Mohair, 30% Silk; 229 yd/210m per 25g skein]; color: #592 Heavenly; 3 balls
Note: 2.25 skeins (approx. 515yd/473m) were used for the stole shown.

Recommended needle size:
1 set US #4/3.5mm straight needles
[always use a needle size that gives you the gauge listed below -- every knitter's gauge is unique]
GAUGE

22 sts/26 rows = 4 inches in stockinette st, after blocking

 
PATTERN NOTES

M1L: Insert left needle from front to back under the horizontal strand which lies between the st just worked, and the next st. Knit into the back of this loop.

M1R: Insert left needle from back to front under the horizontal strand which lies between the st just worked, and the next st. Knit into the front of this loop.

S2KP: Slip next 2 sts to right needle as if to knit them together; k next st, pass both slipped stitches, together, over stitch just knit. Forms a centered double decrease.

DIRECTIONS

CO 83 sts.
K 1 row (a WS row).

Work Rows 1-2 of Chart A sixteen times.

Work Rows 3-24 of Chart A.

Work Rows 1-44 of Chart B six times. Note: Some knitters of Seascape feel that adding a 7th repeat of Chart B results in a better-sized stole.

Work Rows 1-22 of Chart C.

Work Rows 23-24 of Chart C twice, then work Rows 25-26 sixteen times.

K 1 row (a WS row).

BO Row [RS]: P2tog, [sl st from right needle to left needle and p this st tog with next st] until all sts have been bound off. Break yarn and draw through rem st.

FINISHING

Weave in ends and block as desired.
