The Geneva Snow Fan Club

I may be a bit biased, but Geneva Snow is one of my favorite young multidisciplinary performing artists. Here are some of the clips I have collected from her many Art Mails and you can judge for yourself if my bias has any merit.

This first one is a video clip of her debut as an Opera Singer and promising Diva. She is singing the popular Christmas song GreenSleeves. She was awarded an all expenses paid scholarship to study Opera at a prestigious academy in Italy. But then she had a tragic accident that disabled her for many years and put an early end to her career.

Before her accident she also studied Ballet, but she did not give up.

... and continued to cultivate her creativity in many fields of study, i.e.: as an Actress...here she is in a front page Times Colonist News Clip introduced as an understudy to the famous Canadian Film and Radio Actor Robert Bruce ...

She did not stop there but continued undaunted as a Poet and Artist ... Here is a link to her first Illustrated book of Poems archived at the National Library of Canada, you can see in this work the pain she went through in the process of her recovery. Her stark gothic images remind me of the works of George Grosz the Berlin Dadaist. The title Hemikrania is the Greek word for Migraine Headache and she had no shortage of those for many years, just click on the image below and it will take you there:

This is an audio clip of a recent poem.

Spring Cleaning

a poem by Genva Snow

I scatter coffee grounds in the garden

to keep the bugs away from new spring blossoms.

The [memory of a visiting ] yearling deer has been buried.

In the far corner,

next to wild yellow daffodils.

The season of death has now come and gone.

We gather dried dead leaves and fallen branches.

In a funeral pyre, we burn them.

Clouds of white smoke rising up to the heavens.

Spring cleaning for yet another new year.

I offer my sacrifice to the orange red flame, in humility,

I submit my gifts to the vast and unending universe.

...Here is a picture that was taken of her by her Mom. The magical daughter, like her mother, has always had a keen interest in photography
