Rafi Aaron
Rafi Aaron was born in Ottawa, Canada and lived in Israel from 1982 to 1991. His prose poem “Voronezh” was a winner in Grain magazine’s annual writing competition in 2003. Four of his poems were short listed for the 2002 National Magazine Awards. In 2001 Aaron was a finalist in the C.B.C. Literary Competition. He has received grants from the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Tel Aviv Foundation and a scholarship to the Banff Centre For The Arts. He has served as a judge for the Ontario Arts Council’s Works In Progress Grant and The League Of Canadian Poets' Chapbook Competition.
Rafi Aaron is the poet and curator for the traveling exhibit; A Seed In The Pocket Of Their Blood, which combines poetry and photography into one artistic unit. Among the participating artists in this project are; legendary Time Magazine photographer, David Rubinger and acclaimed Montreal photographer, Serge Clement. The exhibit has traveled extensively over the last five years in Canada, Israel and the United States. Aaron’s book of poetry A Seed In The Pocket Of Their Blood (Amphitheatre Publications Ltd., 1997), was acquired by Syracuse University Press in October, 2000 and launched in the United States with a reading at the Canadian Consulate in New York. Endless Films, has made Rafi the subject of one of their documentaries entitled: The Sound Traveller. His poetry has also been featured on C.B.C. Radio, Bravo T.V., T.V. Ontario, and Vision T.V.. Rafi Aaron lives in Toronto.
