Allan Brown

Allan Brown was born in Victoria, BC, and presently lives in Powell River, BC. He has taught English composition and literature, creative and critical writing at St. Lawrence College Saint-Laurent (Kingston, ON), and Malaspina University-College (Powell River). He was Writer in Residence at the Kapuskasing Public Library, 1987-88 (Kapuskasing, ON).

His poetry has been published in various Canadian journals since 1962, and partly collected in 16 books and chapbooks. His critical writing, mostly reviews, has appeared since 1976. His collection Imagines (Leaf Press, 2002) was co-winner of the bp Nichol Chapbook award.

He was literary editor of Quarry magazine (Kingston), 1982-84, 1986; guest editor for two issues of Nebula magazine (North Bay, ON), 1979-80; a member of the editorial board of Rim magazine (Powell River), 1998-99. He has been contributing editor for reviews to Jones Av. (Toronto) since 1996, and general editor of The Wayward Coast Anthology series (Far Field Press) since 2001, The Art Tree (2001), and The Other Eye (2002). He has also edited Many Voices: Music & the Arts in Powell River (Works Consulting, 2004).

He is a member of the Canadian Poetry Associaton, the Federation of BC Writers, Haiku Canada, the pacifi-kana haiku group, and artistic director of the Malaspina Writers' Association (Powell River).
