Cornelia Hoogland

Cornelia Hoogland is a writer (poet and playwright) and scholar (she teaches at the University of Western Ontario, where she can be reached at chooglan@uwo.ca). She recently launched her fourth book Cuba Journal: Writing and Language (Black Moss Press, 2003) in Canada, and in Cuba and the Philippines at international conferences. Selections of Cuba Journal as well as Hoogland's third book of poetry, You Are Home (Black Moss Press, 2001), were shortlisted for the CBC radio literary awards. Other books include The Wire-Thin Bride (Turnstone, 1990), Marrying the Animals (Brick Books,1995), and Salmonberry: A West Coast Fairy Tale (International Plays for Young Audiences, Meriwether, 2000) which was also performed at the 1999 International Women Playwrights Conference in Athens.

Hoogland has performed, lectured, and worked internationally (Cuba, Brazil, U.S. and England) in the areas of poetry and drama. This past year she was the keynote speaker at the Conference On The Role Of The Imagination In Language Learning in New York.
