rob mclennan currently lives in Ottawa, Canada’s glorious
capital city, even though he was born there. The author of ten previous
poetry collections, he has two more forthcoming: name, an errant
(2006, Stride: UK) and The Ottawa City Project (2007, Chaudiere Books:
Ottawa). He has a number of recent chapbooks, including g h o s t s
(Furniture Press: Columbus, Ohio), common knowledge (Pooka Press:
Vancouver), & carnage (As We Try & Sleep: Winnipeg) & his poetry, fiction
& critical work has appeared in over one hundred journals and anthologies
in ten countries & three languages. The editor/publisher of above/ground
press and the longpoem magazine STANZAS (both founded in 1993), he edits
the cauldron books series through Broken Jaw Press, has edited sections of
Australia’s online Jacket magazine, and recently became an editor of the
American on-line journal Drunken Boat. He co-ordinates events & the
semi-annual ottawa small press book fair (founded in 1994) through the
small press action network - ottawa (span-o), edits the online journal
Poetics.ca (with Ottawa poet Stephen Brockwell) and is editor/publisher of
the Ottawa poetry annual ottawater (www.ottawater.com/). In 1999, he won
the CAA / Air Canada Award for most promising writer (in any genre) in
Canada under the age of 30. He is completing a couple of novels, a
collection of essays, and various poetry manuscripts, and editing
collections of essays on the works of George Bowering, Andrew Suknaski and
John Newlove. He is the author of a clever blog
(www.robmclennan.blogspot.com), and recently set up the blog ottawa poetry
newsletter in May of 2005 (www.ottawapoetry.blogspot.com), to include
various contributions from (ir)regular correspondents in Ottawa & beyond.
He was born in Ottawa in 1970 on the ides of March (they say), in the late
Grace Hospital in Ottawa’s Mechanicsville area.
