Susan McMaster's recent book, Waging Peace, collects the poetry, art, and texts from Convergence: Poems for Peace, which presented art-wrapped poems from across Canada to all MPs and Senators in 2001. She's published poetry books, wordmusic, recordings, and scripts; edited collections and series; founded Vernissage, the magazine of the National Gallery of Canada, and the national feminist magazine Branching Out (1973-); and was an original member of the intermedia group First Draft (1981-).

Since 1996, she's been the wordsmith in Geode Music & Poetry (formerly SugarBeat), recording two CDs with Jennifer Giles on keyboards, Alrick Huebener on bass, and friends, and performing at 50-plus venues including the National Library, Kingston Fringe Jazz Festival, Rasputin's, Blue Skies Music Festival, Ottawa Folk Festival, Elora Music Festival, Artscape, and Ottawa International Writers Festival.

Susan works part-time as editor of art catalogues for the National Gallery. She is a member of the League of Canadian Poets, PEN (Canada), the Writers' Trust, SOCAN, CanCopy, the Musician's Union, the Ottawa Independent Writers and the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
