Marianne Micros expresses, in her creative writing, her critical writing, and her teaching, a passion for old-world cultures and mythologies, for European history and literature of the Renaissance, and for new-world experiences of adults and children today. She has written poetry ever since childhood, publishing her first poem at age eight. She has lived in New York, Virginia, Greece, and Ontario and has worked as a waitress, secretary, travel agent, high school teacher, and university professor. Her publications include: a book of poetry about her Greek family (Upstairs Over the Ice Cream); poems in anthologies (Four Women, Origins, The Creative Circus Book); poetry and fiction in several journals; and performances of her poems on three CDs (Four Women Performing, from the House of Pan, and Souwesto Words). She has also published interviews, introductions, critical articles, review articles, and a bibliography.
Marianne has completed a new book of poetry, The King's Ship, which focuses primarily on her search for ancestors and family stories on several trips to Greece. Marianne has performed her poetry throughout southern Ontario and New York State and has taught Creative Writing classes and workshops in Guelph, Waterloo, and London, Ontario. She has a Ph.D from the University of Western Ontario and teaches Renaissance, Medieval, and Scottish literatures at the University of Guelph. She is married and has two daughters.
