Barbara Nickel was born in Saskatoon and raised in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. She has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, where she was the poetry editor of Prism International and has also worked as an instructor. After living in Vancouver for many years, then moving to St.John's, Newfoundland, she is now back in British Columbia.
