Daniel Sloate

I am a writer and translator with more than a dozen books published, including Rimbaud’s Illuminations (Guernica Editions), and a series of Quebec poets in translation.  I am interested in the theatre as well, and I have recently published a collection of my own plays, The Countess Plays.  I have also published four books of my own poetry.  Now retired, I was a professor of translation at both the Université de Montréal and McGill, where I was also director of the Translation Program.

A book of my collected poems was published a few years ago, entitled "Of Dissonance and Shadows", spanning twenty years or so of poetic activity.  I have recently finished translating a selection of Hélène Dorion's poetry for Guernica as well as a selection of Claude Beausoleil's poetry.

My collaboration with Guernica and its dynamic publisher go back to 1981 when Antonio published a collection of mine entitled "A Taste of Earth, A Taste of Flame."  The rest, as they say, is history!
