Mary Lou Soutar-Hynes

Mary Lou Soutar-Hynes grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. An ex-nun, she studied, taught and worked in education in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kingston and Mandeville, Jamaica, and Toronto, where she has lived since immigrating to Canada in 1969. An educator with a special interest in writing and language education, Mary Lou has had poetry and non-fiction articles published in a variety of journals. She is co-author, with Trina Wood, of The Writer Within: Dialogue and Discovery (Harcourt Brace: 1989). She participated in the Banff Centre for the Arts Writing Studio Program in 1998 and is a member of the Sixth Floor Poets writing group. Her work will appear in Six from the Sixth, a Chapbook scheduled for publication in 2002, featuring the poetry of members of the group.
