Rosalee van Stelten

Free-lance writer Rosalee van Stelten was born in Thunder Bay and raised in Winnipeg. A Calgarian for many years, she now lives in Victoria. Her articles, short fiction and poetry have appeared in newspapers, periodicals and anthologies in Canada, the United States, and Italy and have been translated into French, Dutch and Braille. Her work has been heard on CBC Radio's Morningside, Take Five, and Alberta Anthology Live and three of her plays for children were produced by Access Radio in Alberta.

Lee has been a writing instructor in classroom, distance learning and workshop environments; an associate editor of FreeFall magazine; and senior poetry editor for Dandelion magazine's 25th anniversary edition. In addition to the League of Canadian Poets, she is a member of The Alexandra Writers' Centre Society.

She has been a secretary, a court library clerk, an apartment manager, and president of a cattle sales and management company. As a former Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy (Wrens), she is the only female member of the Association of Royal Yachtsmen for her service on HMY Britannia in 1959. She has recently been awarded The Queen's Golden Jubilee medal in recognition of her many years of volunteer work for the Royal Canadian Naval Benevolent Fund. (Author photo: Robert Hegerat)
