Nellie P. (nee Kennedy) Strowbridge was born in Newfounland's oldest outports:
Hibb's Cove, Port de Grave where yarns of pirates and buried treasure still
stir the air. her education originated in a one room school and she later taught
in one.
The author and her husband, Clarence, have two children, daughter, Janalee Amelia,
and son, Michael Kennedy and a grandchild, Nicholas James Gaudon, the first
great-grandchild in the Kennedy and Strowbridge line.
Nellie and Clarence lodge in Pasadena, Newfoundland's crown of the Humber Valley
where she is working on several writing projects.
She is the author of a collection of short stories, Widdershins Stories of
a Fisherman's Daughter, a book of poetry, Shadows of the Heart, and
tri-author of Doors Held Ajar. She has also contributed to several anthologies.
Her award-winning letter/essay to Canada, 2117 is being taught as part
of an English Curriculum at Minsk State Linguistic University.

Nellie P. Strowbridge, a former teacher and newspaper and magazine columnist, is the author of Widdershins: Stories of a Fisherman's Daughter, a poetry collection Shadows of the Heart and the tri-author of an essay and story collection Doors Held Ajar, featuring three Newfoundland women.
She has won 16 awards in the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts & Letters Competition. Her Letter from 1992 won her Canada's Stamp of Approval Award and is capsuled in Canada's National Archives until 2117. Widdershins and a story Letter from 1992 were taught as part of an English Curriculum at Minsk State Linguistic University in 1999. Other works have been taught in Canadian schools and universities.
A novel, Dr. Grenfell's Little Orphan, and a poetry collection, Dancing on Ochre Sands, have just been completed. Her most recent credits are: Postcard and Bus Poetry, publication in the Sandburg-Livesay Award Anthology No Choice but to Trust, Circle of Six, a collection featuring six Newfoundland poets. Her work is in the school series Land Sea & Time. Gage Educational Publishing is including Summer Job in a Canadian textbook for Grade 12 entitled Passages 12. A poem, "The Fisherman's Wife," has been published seven times.
Strowbridge has worked as Writer in the Library, a mentor to young writers and an adjudicator in the Newfoundland and Labrador Junior Division of the Arts and Letters Awards. She is a member of The Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador, The Writers' Union of Canada, The League of Canadian Poets, Page One and a board member of The Association of Cultural Industries.

I like to take students back in time through my time capsule and also on an adventure with an original brain twister. My compilation of Newfoundland words and phrases intrigue and amuse students who have never heard them. I often carry a mystery box and a mystery object.
