Ideas for Poetry Displays in Libraries for National Poetry Month, April 2000

Launched by the League of Canadian Poets

Suggestions for your library poetry display:

  1. archival material for Canadian poets (this may be posters, first edition books, artwork, drafts of poems with notes by the poet, pictures, props, t-shirts, mounted broadsides, mounted newspaper articles etc.)

  2. The poets' biographies, bibliographies, critics comments, poems, and pictures.

  3. Props for the display such as Poetry Spoken Here window stickers or signs, and League posters and information.

Interactive displays are always a great idea. Take a cue from the Magnetic Poetry kits sold in stores and make space for your visitors to get creative!

Display installed at the Toronto Reference Library, October through November, 1998
This was an extensive project (two of these 20 foot outdoor windows), and is larger than what we anticipate for National Poetry Month displays in April.

Display installed at the Peterborough Library, October 1998
This display was for five poets. The display was layed-out and installed by one of our volunteer members. Installation did not take much time at all, with the materials that the League provided.
