Statement regarding the Cliff Plant Memorial Event for Peter Kennedy

A memorial event for Peter Kennedy, a Public Works and Government Services Canada employee who died as a result of the explosion at the Cliff heating plant in Ottawa, Ontario, will be held today, October 19, 2010, one year after the tragedy.

This private ceremony is to commemorate the life and service of our colleague. There will be a moment of silence and remembrance of Mr. Kennedy.

Mr. Kennedy’s family, along with Public Works and Government Services senior representatives and staff, national and local union representatives will be in attendance.

Mr. Kennedy was a long-time employee of Public Works and Government Services Canada, having started his career with PWGSC in 1983. During his 26 years on the job, he built a reputation as a well-respected mentor to his colleagues and an experienced professional. He brought a sense of humour, and of humanity, to his job.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing by federal and provincial organizations. PWGSC continues to work closely with provincial and federal investigators. PWGSC is committed to providing a safe and secure workplace for all employees.
