Pay Transformation Initiative: May 2013 No. 23

Pay Modernization

The upcoming period will be one of considerable activity for the Pay Modernization Project, with the build phase scheduled to begin at the end of June. The build phase will run in tandem with on-going design as the Project team continues to refine how the commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) PeopleSoft pay system needs to be set-up to support sustainable, flexible and client-focused pay administration. The Project is still on track to deliver the Government of Canada Pay Solution in 2015.

Interdepartmental Data Cleansing Working Group

The Project team has been meeting with representatives from those PeopleSoft departments not on the Government of Canada Interface over the past few weeks regarding their data cleansing requirements. The discussions have been informative and collaborative. The first meeting of the interdepartmental data cleansing working group is scheduled for early June.

Public Service Pay Centre One-Year Anniversary

May 28th will mark the first anniversary of the opening of the Public Service Pay Centre in Miramichi, New Brunswick. The Pay Centre is currently providing accurate and timely pay administration services to over 10,000 clients from the 12 Wave 1 departments.

This year has marked many accomplishments at the Public Service Pay Centre.

There are now 100 Compensation Advisor trainees that have successfully completed the Professional Development Program. These employees are on track for promotion to the AS-02 level in September 2013.

Business processes at the Pay Centre were also streamlined and aligned to the Office of the Chief Human Resource Officer’s Common Human Resource Business processes and 171 procedures and desktop tools were developed.

In addition to the introduction of a workload tracking tool, a new Extra Duty Pay application for overtime was also launched with the 12 Wave 1 departments.

As well, the Public Service Pay Centre has received a Client Service Award from the Deputy Minister. This award celebrates the contributions of individuals and teams who demonstrate service excellence and client service focus, and was presented by Brigitte Fortin, the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Accounting, Banking and Compensation Branch at the 1st Anniversary celebration event to Pay Centre staff.

Congratulations to all staff at the Public Service Pay Centre for their hard work in the first year of operations!
