Pension Transformation Initiative: August 2011 No. 5

Pension Modernization Project Update

As previously reported, the Pension Modernization Project has successfully implemented its largest and most complex release, Release 2.0. This release implemented the new core pension software Penfax on April 11, and the Data Capture Tool (DCT) on May 2, 2011.

As with any information technology (IT) project of this size, it was expected that issues would arise following the implementation of the new system. Since the April implementation, the project team (Crown and vendor) has been addressing defects that were identified both before and after the new system was put into production. On July 4 and August 8, maintenance releases successfully implemented system fixes to resolve the defects. In the event that further defects are indentified, they will be addressed by the maintenance team and fixes will be implemented at the same time as future releases.

Next Steps

The Modernization Project's next release, Release 2.5, is on track for the November 28, 2011, delivery of system components to support the administration of service buyback and leave without pay (LWOP).
