Pension Transformation Initiative: September 2011 No. 6

We are very pleased to announce that the Transformation of Pension Administration initiatives have been selected as an honouree for the Government Technology Exhibition and Conference (GTEC) 2011 Distinction Awards Program, in the category Transforming the Business of Government.

The transformation projects (Pension Modernization and Centralization) committed to an implementation approach that minimized the customization of the Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products being used in the new system. In keeping with that approach, the projects adapted approximately 75 government business processes and more than 900 activities/procedures to the requirements of the COTS products. Through focus groups and business workshops involving stakeholders and the compensation community across the government, the transformation team established the new concept of operations, re-engineered outdated processes, defined new roles and responsibilities, developed transition plans, and successfully transformed the service delivery into a modern efficient model based on industry standards.

Together, the Pension Modernization and Centralization projects have transformed the way the government provides pension services to employees who contribute to the public service pension plan. Being selected as an honouree for the GTEC Distinction Awards recognizes the spirit of determination, flexibility and collaboration that has enabled the Transformation Team to adapt to a new work environment and successfully deliver a large-scale complex transformation.

We are proud of our accomplishments and sincerely thank the GTEC Distinction Awards judging committee for honouring the Transformation of Pension Administration team. We also want to thank our colleagues across the government; their ongoing support and collaboration have helped make the Transformation Initiative a success.
