August 2017: Increase to Minimum Wage in Ontario effective January 1, 2018

Please be advised that on June 1, 2017 the Ontario government announced Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act. If passed, the Ontario minimum wage will increase from $11.40 to $14.00 an hour as of January 1, 2018. 

Bill 148 would also implement an entitlement for equal pay for Temp Help Services (THS) agency employees who perform substantially the same work as a federal government employees.

Given the size of the anticipated increase, Public Services and Procurement Canada is looking at solutions to minimize the impact this will have on the THS for the National Capital Region.

In the meantime and until further notice, it is recommended to limit upcoming THS contracts and call ups to March 31, 2018 or, if at all possible, December 31, 2017.

We will provide additional direction in the near future to help manage the upcoming changes and to maintain a fair market.
