Core responsibility: Internal Services

Internal Services are those groups of related activities and resources that the Federal Government considers to be services in support of programs and/or required to meet corporate obligations of an organization. Internal Services refer to the activities and resources of ten distinct services that support program delivery in the organization, regardless of the Internal Services delivery model in a department. These services are: Acquisition Management Services, Communications Services, Financial Management Services, Human Resources Management Services, Information Management Services, Information Technology Services, Legal Services, Materiel Management Services, Management and Oversight Services, Real Property Management Services.

Department of Public Works and Government Services

Core responsibility 1: Property and Infrastructure

Public Services and Procurement Canada provides federal employees and Parliamentarians with work space; builds, maintains and manages federal properties and other public works such as bridges and dams; and provides associated services to federal organizations.

Core responsibility 2: Payments and Accounting

Public Services and Procurement Canada collects revenues and issues payments, maintains the financial accounts of Canada, issues financial reports, and administers payroll and pension services for the Government of Canada.

Core responsibility 3: Government-Wide Support

Public Services and Procurement Canada provides administrative services and tools to federal organizations that help them deliver programs and services to Canadians.

Core responsibility 4: Purchase of Goods and Services

Public Services and Procurement Canada purchases goods and services on behalf of the Government of Canada.

Core responsibility 5: Procurement Ombudsman

The Office of the Procurement Ombudsman operates at arm’s-length from federal organizations. It is legislated to review the procurement practices of federal organizations, review complaints from Canadian suppliers, and provide dispute resolution services.

Canada Post Corporation

Core responsibility 1: Canada Post Corporation

To establish and operate a postal service for the collection, transmission and delivery of messages, information, funds and goods both within Canada and between Canada and places outside Canada, and to conduct its operations on a self-sustaining financial basis while providing a standard of service that will meet the needs of the people of Canada and that is similar with respect to communities of the same size.

Shared Services Canada

Core responsibility 1: Telecommunications

Shared Services Canada delivers data, voice and video communication services within and across the Government of Canada. Shared Services Canada also provides the Government of Canada’s contact centre information technology infrastructure, cellular and toll free services.

Core responsibility 2: Data Centres

Shared Services Canada provides modern, secure and reliable data centre services to customer organizations for the remote storing, processing and distribution of data, including cloud storage and computing services.

Core responsibility 3: Customer Relationships and Service Management

Shared Services Canada provides customer relationship and service management functions to ensure customers are supported and engaged and their information technology services are well managed throughout their life-cycle.

Core responsibility 4: Email and Workplace Technology

Shared Services Canada procures, manages and protects email services for its customer organizations. Shared Services Canada also acquires and provides hardware and software for workplace devices.

Core responsibility 5: Cyber and Information Technology Security

Shared Services Canada works with other Government of Canada departments to provide secure information technology infrastructure services to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of electronic information stored, processed and transmitted by the Government of Canada. Shared Services Canada also coordinates the response to cyber and IT security incidents on behalf of Government of Canada departments and agencies.
