This spring of 2009, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to join once again with the National Arts Centre (www.bcscene.ca/en/media/details.asp?newsID=46) in celebrating the vibrant cultural activity of one of the country's regions. This year, British Columbia is on the scene from April 21 to May 3. In previous years, LAC participated in promoting the arts of the Atlantic Region (2003), Alberta (2005), and Quebec (2007) by creating small on-site exhibitions as part of its contribution to the event. For this year's BC Scene, LAC has created Celebrating B.C. Culture, a modest website allowing Canadians everywhere to share in celebrating the rich artistic culture of today's British Columbia.
This site offers a sampling of the abundant and varied collection of material held by LAC that reflects the history and current works of British Columbia's artists. Whether your interest is music, photography, literature, theatre or dance-there is something here for you.
It is not possible for this website to display everything LAC has on the cultural life of British Columbia. If you see a topic of interest and want to know more, please tell us. We would be happy to provide further information about LAC holdings and how they can be used.
Library and Archives Canada is Canada's collective memory-the repository of the records of this nation's past and present. LAC is committed to collecting and preserving Canada's documentary heritage for current and future generations so that all Canadians might better understand and appreciate the experience of living in this great country.
Enjoy your visit!
