Ottawa, November 9 , 2007 - Library and Archives Canada LAC is proud to co-host the 40th International Conference of the Round Table on Archives (CITRA) with Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. The conference, entitled "Cooperation to Preserve Diversity" will be held in Quebec City from November 11 to 17, 2007.
"CITRA is a unique opportunity to highlight the work of LAC and other information institutions in preserving our documentary heritage in all its forms, and to show how LAC works with various departments to manage the federal government's important documents," said Ian E. Wilson, Librarian and Archivist of Canada. Mr. Wilson will speak at the opening ceremony on November 12.
Mr. Daniel Caron, Assistant Deputy Minister at Library and Archives Canada, will present a pre-conference seminar "The Management of Government Information: The Canadian Experience" on November 12. Mr. Caron will describe Canadian record-keeping practices and discuss management tools being developed to solve the problems posed by maintaining government documents in Canada.
CITRA
Participants from around the world will be attending the International Conference of the Round Table on Archives. The 40th CITRA will take place just a few weeks before the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of Québec, and will highlight the key role of archives in commemorating such historical events and preserving the stories of a nation.
