Library and Archives Canada's New "Forum" Connects Canadians with their Political and Civic Heritage

(OTTAWA) Nov. 29, 2007 - Today, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and its partners will launch an exciting new initiative designed to connect Canadians with their political and civic history.

Called the LAC Forum on Canadian Democracy, this new initiative will be launched at an event entitled Legacies and Legends: Prime Ministers and their Memoirs, designed to focus on Canada's prime ministers. This launch marks the first in a series of events to be held in partnership with the University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

The LAC Forum on Canadian Democracy will promote civic engagement by connecting Canadians with the unique historical and contemporary information on politics held by Library and Archives Canada. The Forum will be both an online venue for research and a focal point from which to host exhibitions, conferences and symposia. The Forum will bring together leaders and experts in fields relating to Canadian government, politics and civic life.

The November 29 event will involve a panel discussion between top political observers and respected journalists on the legacies of Prime Ministers Mulroney and Chrétien. Moderated by Catherine Clark of CPAC, the panelists will include Jeffrey Simpson of The Globe and Mail, Manon Cornellier of Le Devoir, and Patrice Roy of Radio-Canada Television.

The event takes place Thursday, November 29 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at University of Ottawa's Tabaret Hall, Room 112, 550 Cumberland Avenue, Ottawa.
