LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES CANADA - CONSULTATION ON SERVICES

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) strives to enable Canadians to better understand Canada's heritage, knowledge and culture. To succeed, we recognize the critical importance of listening carefully to you, our clients. For this reason, LAC has established a new and continuing process of public consultation on the delivery of its public services.

Focus on Services

LAC is putting in place a services strategy to ensure that clients receive the services they expect from a national knowledge institution. To make this strategy work, LAC seeks to provide a range of opportunities for clients to give feedback and offer new ideas. At the same time, LAC is increasing its efforts to communicate with clients, promoting better understanding of what it would like to accomplish through service innovation. Public consultations represent a critical part of this larger process.

A Two-part Consultation Process

The new public consultation has two components designed to encourage input from a broad range of our clients:

  • The LAC Services Advisory Board has been created to engage representatives of user communities across Canada to consider issues directly related to the services aspects of LAC's mandate. This committee will meet three to four times per year.
  • LAC public consultations will be conducted on a regular and continuing basis and will focus on a variety of topics of interest to LAC clients. These consultations are open to all Canadians and will include public meetings, as well as opportunities to provide input through the Internet, by mail and by telephone.

Topics for Discussion

LAC is interested in learning more from Canadians about what types of services LAC should offer and how these services could be delivered through the service channels currently available. Consultations will be used to:

  • identify client expectations about LAC services as well as gaps in current services;
  • seek feedback on proposed service improvements;
  • build capacity within LAC to include all clientele in service improvement planning;
  • help LAC determine where resources should be allocated to support services and increase client satisfaction; and
  • identify opportunities to build a sustained and effective dialogue with LAC clients across Canada.
