Cataloguing in Publication

The Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) program of Library and Archives Canada (LAC) makes it possible to catalogue books before they are published. The CIP data are created from information supplied by the publisher and are printed on the back of the title page of each publication. The data are distributed online through the AMICUS database and through the New Books Service, which is accessible on the following LAC website: www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/newbooks/index-e.html.

The CIP program serves the needs of Canadian libraries, publishers and booksellers by providing timely information about new Canadian books. It assists publishers to promote their publications by providing libraries and booksellers with a convenient source of information on new and forthcoming titles. Libraries use CIP data to place advance orders for new publications and for cataloguing new acquisitions.

To learn more about CIP and how to apply for this service online, visit www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/cip/index-e.html.

For more information, contact the CIP Coordinator at cip@lac-bac.gc.ca or call 819-994-6881 or 1-866-578-7777 (toll free in Canada and the United States).
