For over thirty years, the Council of Federal Libraries, working with the CFL Secretariat, was the mechanism by which the National Library of Canada, and now LAC (under the Library and Archives of Canada Act), fulfilled its mandate to coordinate the services of federal libraries.
The challenges facing the federal library community - for example, the government-wide public service renewal initiative and the complex issues surrounding the licensing of electronic products and services - have multiplied in recent years, requiring more attention and greater coordination efforts.
To better enable strategic responses to our community's challenges, LAC has restructured the Council of Federal Libraries and its Secretariat. Although the new organization is still settling, here is how it is shaping up so far:
