Welcome to A Nation's Chronicle: The Canada Gazette. With the launch of this online resource, Canadian history is now even easier to discover.

As the official newspaper of the Government of Canada, the Canada Gazette has served as a continuous public record of the nation's business since 1841. From pre-Confederation times to the present day, it has documented the defining moments in Canada's evolution as a democratic country.

This is an excellent resource for anyone with a passion for history or an interest in helping shape public policy through the Government's consultative process. I am especially pleased with the educational component. Understanding our past is a tremendous foundation on which to build our future. I encourage young Canadians to explore the vast store of history contained here and to recognize the potential they have to contribute to the ongoing process of nation building.

I commend everyone at Library and Archives Canada and the Canada Gazette who worked to provide us with such access to this living record.
