April 2003
The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) has made complying with the process of importing and exporting goods for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) simpler and easier with the introduction of a small business information centre. The centre is tailor-made for SMEs and includes customized tools and information on a new web site, enhanced automated telephone services, and access to small business representatives.
This client group makes up 90 per cent of Canadian businesses, approximately 150,000 businesses. These SMEs tend to be infrequent importers and exporters, and therefore have specific information needs. With the introduction of this information centre, SMEs now have 24/7 access to the information and tools they need to comply with customs legislation and requirements.
This information centre includes the following:
This web site provides the following products:
2. 1-800-461-9999: Automated Customs Information Service (ACIS)
ACIS is a computerized, 24-hour, 7-day-a-week telephone service that automatically answers incoming calls and provides general pre-recorded customs information. This system has been updated to respond to common questions and issues raised by SMEs.
3. Small Business Representatives
Customs Client Services Officers in all CCRA regional offices are available during regular office hours to provide general and customized information to Canadian SMEs, and to respond to their questions on customs processes.
