Aerospace Equipment Program is responsible for acquiring a wide range of technically complex aerospace systems, including military and civilian aircraft and related mechanical systems, equipment, aircraft trainers/simulators and logistic spares. It also acquires various services such as engineering, repair and overhaul, maintenance, modifications, component repair, publications maintenance and revision services.
Non-project acquisition and logistic support activities are provided on behalf of the Department of National Defence, Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) (for foreign governments) and various Government Departments and agencies, which utilize aircraft such as Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Transport Canada.
Principle commodities for Department of National Defence (DND) are; the CF-188 Implementation Modernization Program (IMP), implementation of three CF-188 Optimized Weapons Systems Support (OWSS) Contracts, CF-188 Primary Aircraft Vehicle (PAV), Avionics, and Propulsion system and all the maintenance support for the fleet of CT-114 Tutor aircraft (Snowbirds). Also included in this divison are the maintenance support and upgrade services for DND's aircraft simulators which include the CP-140 Aurora, CC-130 Hercules, CF-188 Hornet and CH-146 Griffon aircraft fleets.
Provides military aircraft systems and support services such as engineering, maintenance, repair and overhaul, modifications, component repair, and publications management services for DND's fleets of Transport and Search and Rescue Aircraft including the CC-130 Hercules, CC-177 Globemaster, CC-150 Polaris (Airbus), CC-115 Buffalo, CC-138 Twin Otter and the CH-146 Griffon Helicopter. Provides support services for DND aircraft including the T56 engine used on the CC-130 Hercules, and the CP-140 Aurora, the PT6 engine used on the CC-138 Twin Otter aircraft, and the T64 engine used on the CC-115 Buffalo aircraft. Provides similar acquisition services for its Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) customers. Many of the residual contracts will eventually be replaced by Optimized Weapon System Management (OWSM) Contracts.
Principle commodities are military logistics spares for DND related to airframe, avionics and engines as well as personal safety equipment. It also has a dedicated Quick Response Team for urgent DND aircraft related requirements such as Aircraft on the Ground (AOG) and Immediate Operational Requirement (IOR).
Provides support for various civilian Aircraft and Simulators used by Transport Canada and the RCMP. Support varies from the creation of Standing Offers to the acquisition of a number of Fix Wing and Rotary Wing aircrafts such as King Air C-90 and simulator, Citation 2 and simulator, Pilatus and Piaggio Eurocopter ASTAR B3, and Bell 407.
Provides support for the Repair and Overhaul (R&O) contracting services of the CH-124 Sea King helicopters including the airframe, dynamic components, the T-58 engines and similar contracting services for the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) customers. Provides support services through residual contracts for the CP-140 Aurora aircraft untill the full implementation of the Optimized Weapon System Management contract. Manages other contracts for miscellaneous avionics and equipment R&O, which are common between various other fleets. Manages contracts for the repair and maintenance of ground to air radar systems used at Canadian Forces bases in Canada.
Also manages the Tri-Services Engineering Support Supply Arrangement (TESSA) which provides a vehicle for the delivery of various technical and professional services to DND clients.
The Department of National Defence's fleet of CP-140 Aurora aircraft is currently undergoing an update of all avionics systems under the Aurora Incremental Modernization Project. This work involves the installation of a new navigation system, a new communication management system, a data management system and new surveillance sensors including an imaging radar.
Two long-term, performance-based contracts - one contract each for the CP-140 Prime Air Vehicle and Avionics - were awarded to IMP Group and L-3 Electronic Systems respectively to provide complete in-service support services to the Department of National Defence for the CP-140 aircraft fleet under the CP-140 OWSM Project. These services include engineering support, configuration management, publication management, repair and overhaul services, and the provision of spares.
Support for the operation and maintenance of the North Warning System (NWS), which consist of a chain of forty-seven (47) unattended Canadian radar sites across the Arctic. NWS provides both Canadian and North American aerospace surveillance by detecting airborne threats and providing associated warnings and assessment data.
