PWGSC wins the Chair's Cup for outstanding GCWCC results!
November 2012
The results are in for this year's charity campaign and PWGSC—as a department and as a common service agency for the Government of Canada—bested its ambitious goals! Collectively, the federal government raised $21.4 million in donations and PWGSC was specifically honoured with the Chair's Cup for Campaign Excellence for its “outstanding results
” in fundraising, participation levels and overall creativity and enthusiasm. For its part, PWGSC raised over $1 million for the campaign!
For this amazing accomplishment, we have to thank all employees, retirees, volunteers, students, managers and executives for choosing to be a star in someone's life by supporting GCWCC once again this fall. This noteworthy success would not have been possible without your volunteer involvement and generous donations.
Receiving the Chair's Cup is a terrific honour, which reflects the hard work, energy and creativity that was put into the PWGSC campaign. It would not have been the same without the strong leadership of José Laverdière, campaign head for the department. In addition, we must recognize and appreciate the tireless efforts of the PWGSC GCWCC co-champions: Donna Achimov, Chief Executive Officer, Translation Bureau; and Pablo Sobrino, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Acquisitions Branch. Their drive, enthusiasm and participation enabled a successful, well-coordinated, inclusive campaign.
The federal workplace charitable campaign is the single largest contributor to United Way Ottawa, Centraide Outaouais and Healthpartners. Public servants in the National Capital Region have contributed to annual fundraising campaigns since 1945.
On November 26, hundreds of public servants came together at the National Gallery of Canada for a special closing ceremony to mark the end of the 2012 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC). There was much to celebrate as a huge amount of money was raised by organizations across the government and PWGSC was singled out for its outstanding performance and contribution. “This is the crowning achievement of one of PWGSC's best campaigns. Congratulations to everyone!
” remarked employee Samir Britel, Senior Human Resources Advisor.
Over the course of this year's campaign, the department organized fundraising activities of all kinds. From racing with toonies to running with sneakers, PWGSC employees showed up, giving their utmost. From breakfasts, to pizza lunches, to bake sales, PWGSC carried its weight. From auctions, to craft sales, to draws for this and that, every branch contributed to making a difference in local communities and across the country by supporting organizations that help the less fortunate.
Back in September, the Government of Canada set a collective goal of raising $21 million. Together we surpassed that. PWGSC pledged to raise $925,000 this year, an enormous challenge and call to action … that was answered! The exact amount raised by the PWGSC team will be announced at the department's GCWCC closing ceremony on December 5.
