The purpose of the Green Procurement Plan is to:
- Outline key environmental impacts for a given good or service;
- Indicate the procurement actions that can be taken to mitigate these impacts; and
- Gather information on the progress of implementing the Policy on Green Procurement for a given good or service.
We strive for continuous improvement, and every time we issue a procurement instrument we hope to decrease the environmental impact even more. In order to accomplish this we need industry support. Green Procurement Plans will provide suppliers and Departments with useful information including:
- Environmental considerations taken into account in the procurement decision-making process; and
- Present and future plans for incorporating environmental criteria in federal government purchases that allows industry to help us reduce our environmental footprint.
