Completion of the review of the national standard of Canada for voluntary labelling and advertising of foods that are and are not products of genetic engineering

The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) has published the reaffirmation of the National Standard of Canada for Voluntary Labelling and Advertising of Foods that Are and Are Not Products of Genetic Engineering, CAN/CGSB-32.315.

A reaffirmation is a statement by CGSB that the Technical Committee has confirmed that a standard continues to be valid without requiring any technical updates. This statement also identifies that it is still in conformance with applicable standard-development requirements.

When a company chooses to make a food labelling claim about genetic engineering, this standard provides guidance on how those claims can be made.

The Technical Committee was re-established for this review and made up of a balance of volunteers from government, industry, academia and other stakeholders. CGSB would like to thank all members of the Technical Committee for their contributions to complete the reaffirmation.

The standard is available on the CGSB website Voluntary Labelling and Advertising of Foods that are and are not Products of Genetic Engineering.
